Congressional Forum, "State of KCKPS," with Dr. Alicia Miguel, Interim Superintendent KCKPS
The Congressional Forum is a 53 year institution, and the Chamber's public policy series, which features local, state, and federal representatives to speak about issues relevant to the area's business community.
Representative Sharice Davids speaks to the group as often as she can, but other guest speakers are often featured at the monthly forums.
This month we feature Dr. Alicia Miguel, Interim Superintendent of KCKPS, for a "State of KCKPS" presentation.
Dr. Alicia Miguel Bio Dr. Alicia Miguel has worked alongside KCK teachers, principals, and staff since she first entered the district back in July of 2012. The Argentina native has served in various educational roles in the last 30 years. “The best part about working for this district is the diverse population,” said Dr. Miguel. “This sense of community and the ongoing learning that takes place in this district is what makes it so special.” Since becoming a USD 500 employee, Dr. Miguel has worked as the Director of ESL, the Executive Director for Early Childhood through 5th grade, and most recently she has served in the role of Instructional Improvement Officer.
On Friday, August 21st the USD 500 Board of Education named Dr. Miguel the Interim Superintendent as the district continues to look for a person to fill the role left behind by the departure of Dr. Charles Foust.
“I am excited about the role,” said Dr. Miguel. “I am hoping to provide strong leadership, continue to build relationships with staff, students and families; looking forward to the challenge and the learning that this will bring. I plan to listen and learn, get to know what people have to offer, think, and need. Create an environment where people can use their talents to contribute to the common good of the district and to ensure that our students succeed, have their needs met and are prepared for college and career.”
Dr. Miguel is married with a son and stepson. In her free-time she enjoys: traveling, cooking, reading and playing tennis.
